Next Step

Next Step is a 16-bed supported accommodation by Great Places Housing Group for adult men with enduring mental health needs.

This longstanding project boasts a positive move on and is based on Palatine Road in Withington and offers 24-hour supported half-board accommodation. This step-down residential accommodation supports customers to a 12-month move on to more independent living with staff offering weekly structured wellbeing sessions with person-centred goals and an additional offer of 24-hour reception cover.

Next Step supports customers to:

• Maintain a stable accommodation
• Gain independence and improve wellbeing
• Support, encourage and empower customers
• Supporting customers to move on to suitable step-down accommodation
• Support is for medium to low needs and includes housing management, move-on, finance support and linking to key external partnerships (i.e. Change Grow Live – CGL, Community Mental Health Teams – CMHTs) and multi-disciplinary team meetings (MTDs)
• Referrals are taken directly from care co-ordinators or similar
• Move On is supported by the Housing and Wellbeing Officer and the pathways are via Manchester Move, internally or the private rented sector with an offer of support from Manchester City Council.

Referral criteria are:

• Men only 18+
• An enduring mental health diagnosis
• Support of Care Co-ordinator preferred
• Self-medicating or sticking to Depo injection
• Manchester connection for Housing Benefit
• Funding secured from the Mental Health panel
