At Great Places, we’re working hard to make homes warmer, greener, and more energy efficient. This helps our customers save money and supports our commitment to protecting the planet.
One of our key goals is to make sure all our homes reach at least an EPC Band C rating by 2030. EPC stands for Energy Performance Certificate – it’s a measure of how energy efficient your home is.
A retrofit is the process of making changes to your home to improve its energy efficiency.
This might include:
These are fitted to your roof and turn sunlight into electricity – even on cloudy days!
This helps stop heat escaping through your roof, keeping your home warmer and reducing heating costs.
If your home has cavity walls (two layers with a gap in between), insulation fills that gap to trap warmth inside.
A thin insulated board that is applied to the inside of your external walls or porch. This helps to keep heat in your home, making it warmer for longer and could help to reduce energy bills. It can also reduce drafts and cold spots, making your house more comfortable and resistant to mould.
High Heat Retention Storage Heaters (HHRSH) use electricity to build heat at off peak times, and then release this slowly throughout the day, maintaining a comfortable temperature even in colder months. This can give you much better control on how you heat your home, and potentially helping you to save on energy bills.
Smart Heating Controls give you more options on how you use your heating, using simple settings or even an app on your phone. You can chose to heat your home when you need it, reducing waster energy and making your home warmer, more efficient and comfortable.
Good ventilation keeps your home healthy and helps prevent damp and mould. We improve this by upgrading fans, adding trickle vents to windows, and adjusting door undercuts.
It’s a survey carried out by a qualified assessor who visits your home to take measurements and photos. This helps us plan how to make your home more energy efficient. It usually takes about an hour.
If your home already meets or exceeds EPC Band C, no further work is needed. That means your home is already energy efficient.
Yes – you’ll need to be in to let our contractor carry out the survey. We’ll arrange appointments at a time that suits you.
It depends on what’s needed. Some improvements, like loft insulation, can be done in a day. Others, like solar panels, may take 2-3 days. Our contractor will work with you to plan the works around your schedule.
