A youth-led documentary celebrating the Northmoor neighbourhood was screened to a packed audience as part of this year’s Our Longsight Festival.
Commissioned by Great Places and produced through Reel MCR, the Northmoor documentary explores the people, places and stories that make the neighbourhood unique. The film was screened on Friday 21 August at Longsight Art Space, marking a proud moment for the young people who helped bring the project to life.
The documentary was commissioned by Great Places to provide a unique opportunity for local young people to develop new skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the needs, challenges and aspirations of the Northmoor community.
Over nearly two years, young filmmakers Joy Saraleesan and Kenan Farajallah worked alongside Reel MCR to interview a wide range of residents, community leaders and local workers. Through these conversations, they explored both the opportunities and challenges facing the area, creating a powerful portrait of Northmoor and its people.
The screening formed part of the annual Our Longsight Festival, a community celebration led by Longsight Art Space and supported by a range of local organisations. Held primarily at Crowcroft Park and Longsight Art Space, the festival brings residents together through arts, culture and community activities.
The premiere attracted a strong audience and sparked discussions about the future of Northmoor, with attendees sharing their thoughts and reflections on the stories featured in the film.
