As we head into the school holidays, extra family activities mean extra costs. But, the good news is that there are plenty of ways to enjoy the summer without spending a fortune!
Many restaurants and cafés are offering free or discounted children’s meals this summer. For example, children can eat for £1 at Asda Cafés, from 95p at IKEA, and free with a paying adult at a range of restaurants including Bella Italia, Las Iguanas, Morrisons Cafés and TGI Fridays.
There are also lots of free and low-cost family activities across our communities. Families in Yorkshire can enjoy places such as Graves Park Animal Farm, Heeley City Farm and Kelham Island Museum, all of which offer free entry. There are also free summer events, family cycling routes and walking trails to explore.
Across the North West, websites like North West for Kids regularly share affordable days out, family walks, adventure playgrounds, seasonal events and local attractions to help families make the most of the holidays.
If your child receives benefits-related free school meals, you may also be eligible for support through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which offers free meals and activities during the school holidays. There is also additional help available through the Government’s Summer Savings Campaign, including free bus travel for children and savings on some family attractions and activities – you can learn more about the HAF programme, and savings here on our website.
