Great Places and Northstone are celebrating the completion of their first two developments delivered in partnership – Breacla in Lancaster and Abri in Wigan.

The schemes mark an important milestone in our collaboration focused on delivering high-quality, affordable and sustainable homes that meet the needs of local communities.

At Breacla, on Scotforth Road in Lancaster, 31 new homes have been delivered as part of a wider Northstone development. The scheme offers a mix of Affordable Rent and Shared Ownership homes, helping more people access a home that suits their needs.

The development includes a range of properties, from one-bedroom cottage flats and two-bedroom bungalows to two, three and four-bedroom family homes.

Sustainability has been a key focus, with homes benefitting from features such as solar PV panels and electric vehicle charging points, supporting residents to reduce both their energy use and household bills.

In Pemberton, the Abri development has brought forward 66 affordable homes across Shared Ownership, Affordable Rent and Social Rent tenures.

All homes have been designed to achieve high levels of energy performance, with features including air source heat pumps and solar PV panels helping to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

The development also includes a number of innovative construction approaches. Some homes have been built using timber frame methods, while others incorporate battery storage technology to maximise the use of renewable energy.

Abri forms part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s ambition to deliver net-zero carbon homes, supporting the ‘Truly Affordable Net Zero’ model.

Nick Gornall, our Director of Growth, said:

This partnership with Northstone reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes that make a lasting difference to people and communities.

Breacla and Abri show what can be achieved through collaboration, combining strong design, sustainability and innovation to create homes that residents can be proud of.

We’re pleased to see these first schemes completed and look forward to working together to deliver more much-needed homes across the region.

Jarod Kelly, Land & Partnerships Manager at Northstone, added:

The completion of Breacla and Abri represents a significant milestone and the start of an exciting partnership with Great Places.

These developments demonstrate what can be achieved through a shared focus on quality, sustainability and meeting the needs of local communities.
