Reducing our own carbon footprint
We’re reducing the environmental impact of the way we run Great Places – from our offices and fleet to the goods and services we buy. By measuring our emissions, improving efficiency and working with suppliers, we can cut carbon, reduce waste and support better value for the long term.
What we’re doing

Measuring our impact
We are improving the way we measure carbon emissions across our operations so we can make informed decisions and track progress more clearly. This includes Scope 1, 2 and key Scope 3 emissions, helping us build a stronger picture of our overall environmental impact.
Travel and fleet
We’re working to reduce emissions from business travel, commuting and our fleet. This includes encouraging lower‑carbon travel choices, supporting electric and hybrid vehicle use, and looking for practical ways to reduce grey fleet mileage.
Suppliers and procurement
We are building stronger environmental expectations into procurement and contract management. That means working with suppliers to improve performance, reduce waste and carbon, and support more sustainable products and services.
Waste, recycling and resource use
We’re reducing waste in our offices and services by improving recycling, reviewing how materials are used and aiming to send less to landfill. This supports cleaner operations and more responsible use of resources.
Energy and water efficiency
We are improving energy and water efficiency across our buildings to cut emissions, reduce running costs and target investment where it can have the biggest impact. This includes reviewing office systems and identifying further opportunities to improve performance over time.
Recognised standards
We use recognised frameworks such as SHIFT to assess and improve our environmental performance. Achieving SHIFT Silver marked an important step forward, and we will use future assessments to help drive further improvement across the organisation.
