Emily is one of our customers in Wybourn. Through attending Wybourn Works, one discussion around council tax led to more holistic support with her finances.

With her son about to begin University, Emily needed some advice around how this would affect her council tax bill. She met with our resident Money Matters Specialist through Wybourn Works, who discussed with Emily different scenarios (such as her son living at home during his studies or moving out).

It was through discussing this that it became clear to our specialist that Emily also had health issues affecting her daily life. They discussed the options of benefits, and Emily stated her wish to return to work to help with her financial struggles. After this initial appointment ended, our specialist advised Emily that they could support her with making a PIP application.

Emily had been apprehensive about the prospect of applying for PIP, having been turned down before following a negative experience of this. However, between the Money Matters Specialist and Employability Coach, Emily was reassured that she would be supported through every step of the process. The specialist worked with Emily during scheduled one-to-one sessions through Wybourn Works, and they completed PIP forms together. Following this, our Employability Coach supported Emily with preparing for the phone assessment.

After a few weeks, Emily rang the team to confirm that she had been awarded PIP of £72.65 a week. She was very happy with this result and the support she had along the way, particularly after being previously unsuccessful with this.

Following this positive step forward, our Money Matters Specialist continued with their one-to-one support of Emily, working towards creating a budget plan. Alongside this, Emily also worked closely with the Employability Coach to build towards future employment.
