In 2021, Great Places took a bold step toward revitalising Northmoor Road by refurbishing three retail units and inviting community organisations to bring life back into the area. Among those chosen was Youth Elements, a non-profit dedicated to empowering young people through informal education, life skills and creative opportunities. Their move into 91 Northmoor Road was driven by community feedback and their proven track record of inspiring youth engagement.

Since then, Youth Elements has become a cornerstone in Northmoor. Their impact has been transformative, creating safe spaces, fostering leadership and offering activities that help young people feel connected with their community.

Pete Crean, Community Partnership Manager at Great Places, said:

“Working with Youth Elements over the past three years has been brilliant, and it’s inspiring to see the impact they’ve made as part of the Northmoor community. Longsight is one of Manchester’s youngest wards, and we’re excited about continuing our partnership with Youth Elements for many years to come, ensuring we meet the needs of this vibrant community.”

Youth Elements’ approach includes several initiatives such as:

Investing in the Future

Youth Elements is constantly evolving. They’re converting their basement into a gym, installing a vending machine and study room, and planning a mentoring programme supported by safeguarding training. Their Community Champions initiative and leadership programmes ensure young people gain confidence and skills that last a lifetime.

One standout project is the “On the Wall” art initiative, a mural inspired by Black British History and the Windrush generation. This creative endeavour celebrates culture and community, bringing residents together to share stories and ideas.

Three Years of Impact

With dedicated staff members and occasional volunteers, Youth Elements has delivered a full year of activities and secured resilience funding to expand fitness and youth champion programmes. They’re actively seeking partnerships with local schools to deepen their reach.

Amina Waldron, CEO & Founder of Youth Elements, said:

“Our presence on Northmoor Road has allowed us to create a safe, empowering space where young people and young adults can discover their strengths and realise their potential. We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved so far, and deeply grateful to Great Places for believing in our vision. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected community where the voices of those aged 11 to 30 are heard, valued and celebrated.”

Their mission is clear: empower young people to be the best versions of themselves. Through informal education and creative expression, Youth Elements is shaping a brighter future not only for Northmoor’s younger ones but for the whole community.
