Great Places Housing Group has secured an additional £49.9 million in grant funding from Homes England, the government’s housing and delivery agency, to support the delivery of a further 509 new affordable homes to start by March 2027 and complete by March 2029. The funding comes through the £2 billion additional funding programme, allocated as part of the Affordable Homes Programme 2021–2026.
This additional funding builds on Great Places’ existing Strategic Partnership with Homes England and will see the organisation delivering 5,023 new affordable homes in total across the North West and South Yorkshire, receiving a total of £331 million through the Affordable Homes Programme.
The programme includes Great Places’ flagship regeneration schemes in Stockport’s Town Centre West, and the Grey Mare Lane neighbourhood in East Manchester, the latest phase in the regeneration of the iconic Park Hill in Sheffield, and the first-of-its-kind LGBTQ+ majority extra care scheme in Whalley Range, Manchester.
Further development opportunities are being sought in the North West and South Yorkshire to deliver the programme and to build a pipeline for further grant funding opportunities as Great Places looks to continue with its long standing record of developing new affordable homes at volume.
Commenting on the additional funding, Helen Spencer, our Executive Director of Growth, said:
We’re delighted to have secured this additional funding from Homes England, which will enable us to deliver even more affordable homes across the North West and South Yorkshire. This investment strengthens our commitment to tackling the housing crisis and creating vibrant, sustainable communities. Working in partnership with Homes England is key to achieving these ambitions, and we’re proud to play our part in delivering high-quality homes where they’re needed most.
