Great Places is delighted to support the opening of Salford Youth Zone (SYZ), a dynamic new space for young people across Salford. Officially opening its doors to the public this July, SYZ is a purpose-built facility designed to empower local youth, helping them build confidence, pursue their ambitions and shape a brighter future.

SYZ is open seven days a week, offering over 20 engaging activities each session for young people aged 8 to 19, or up to 25 for those with additional needs or disabilities.

With a significant number of homes located near the new centre, Great Places recognises the importance of youth services to our communities. In response to feedback from our customers, we’re proud to support SYZ with a £10,000 contribution from our Social Value Fund. This fund is made possible through donations from our supply chain, aligned with our profit-for-purpose business model.

SYZ is the second site developed by youth work charity EMPOWER, which also oversees HideOut Youth Zone in Gorton. It joins the growing network of Onside Youth Zones, a national charity committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people can thrive.

Guy Cresswell, Executive Director of Customer Services at Great places, said about this project:

“We’re thrilled to support Salford Youth Zone as it opens its doors to young people across the city. At Great Places, we believe that investing in youth services is vital for building stronger, more resilient communities. SYZ is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision, and we’re proud to contribute to a space that will inspire, empower and uplift the next generation.”

Senior Philanthropy Manager of SYZ, Amanda Coverdale, said:

“We are really excited to be working with the team at Great Places. This partnership will have a lasting and powerful impact on the well-being and development of young people, as well as their local community, helping to create a brighter future for the city of Salford.”
