Great Places recently hosted Bury Council’s Housing and Adult Social Care Leads on a visit to mark the official start on site at its new £10.3 million affordable housing development in the borough.
Cllr Clare Cummins, Cabinet Member for Housing Services at Bury Council and Cllr Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform, were joined by our Director of Development, Nick Gornall and members of the project team at the event to mark the occasion and to view progress to date at the new development at Kemp Heaton Avenue.
Delivered in partnership Hargreaves Contracting and part funded by Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Brownfield Housing Fund, the development located on a site between Bury Cemetery and Peachment Place, will deliver 43 homes for social rent in a mix of apartments, bungalows and houses.
Working in close partnership with Bury Council’s Housing Strategy and Adult Social Care teams, Kemp Heaton Avenue will offer a mix of homes tailored to a range of needs. These include supported living apartments for adults with learning disabilities, wheelchair-accessible bungalows, and general needs housing. The supported living homes will enable Bury Council to relocate residents currently housed in out of borough placements closer to family networks, and the accessible bungalows will enable new customers to live independently for longer.
Commenting on the visit, Cllr Clare Cummins, Cabinet Member for Housing Services at Bury Council, said:
It is essential that there is a wide variety of housing in our borough to meet the needs of everyone. We are delighted to work with Great Places on this excellent new development, built on brownfield land, which will enable Bury people with particular needs to live closer to home, their friends and families.
Nick Gornall, our Director for Development, added:
We’re pleased to be working in close partnership with Bury Council and the wider project team to deliver this much-needed specialist housing development. Kemp Heaton Avenue reflects our shared commitment to creating high-quality, inclusive homes that meet a diverse range of needs. It was good to see progress on site and to welcome colleagues from the Council to mark this important milestone. We look forward to seeing Hargreaves Contracting bring the development to life and the positive impact these completed homes will have for residents and the wider community.
Neil Ashworth, Managing Director at Hargreaves Construction, said:
It’s a real pleasure to be part of this project as we break ground on what will be a fantastic new development- 43 much needed homes in Bury. This is an important milestone, and I want to thank our partners at Great Places Housing Group and Bury Council. The Kemp Heaton Avenue scheme is a great example of what can be achieved when we work together with shared values and a common goal to deliver a high standard of affordable housing for local people. We’re excited to get started, and even more excited to see the homes come to life – homes that people will be very proud to live in.
Completion is expected in early 2027.
