Andy Bonnington, our Director of Sustainable Assets recently joined Contracts Surveyor John Rosler to meet with members of the project team and look at recently completed works at our Dermot Murphy Close scheme in Withington.

John has recently been working with contractors Emmanuel Whittaker overseeing the renovation 22 wet rooms, five staff/communal kitchens and upgrades to two communal bathrooms as part of our improvements work programme. Dermot Murphy Close is a 22-bed NHS Continuing Healthcare unit rented from Great Places offering 24-hour care for patients with complex physical health needs who need nursing or personal care.

The work here was challenging, as John explains:

“Due to the nature of the scheme and the needs of the patients we had to co-ordinate all works and spec closely with the site staff to ensure the minimum disruption to patients while the work was carried out.

“The team also worked closely with the staff at the scheme to ensure that proposed changes took into account the specific needs of patients, for example this included changing wet room colour schemes to ensure they were dementia friendly, using colours for handrails and toilet seats.”

The result has been extremely well received by patients at the scheme as Annmarie Griffin, Housekeeper at Dermot Murphy explained:

“The thoughtful changes made by Great Places during the renovation at Dermot Murphy Close have really enhanced the living experience for our patients.

“From the dementia-friendly wet room colour schemes to carefully chosen handrails and toilet seat colours, every detail was considered. The positive feedback from our patients reflects the success of these improvements.”
