It’s been a very busy year for Wybourn, our key anchor neighbourhood in Sheffield, and the Pat Midgley Community Hub has been at the centre of this. Over the festive season, our Community Partnership Manager, Melanie King, our team of Community Champions and volunteers at the centre came together to make the space somewhere the community can celebrate the season.
First, the team invited customers and Wybourn residents to join them in unleashing their creativity to ‘dress up’ the centre. Just in time for the run-up to Christmas on 29 November, customers and colleagues came together to put up decorations and get into the Christmas spirit. As well as this, local artist Hayley Alessi attended the event and helped everyone to make paper lanterns for the Christmas tree. Everyone got to enjoy free drinks and refreshments, truly deserved after a job well done!
Always a great space for arts and crafts, the day also involved a bath-bomb making session run by Rosey, from our partners, Steam Works. 27 bath bombs were created for 27 hot baths for cosy winter nights in!
With the centre now looking fit for festive celebrations, the team organised a Community Christmas Lunch, which took place on Friday 19 December. A comforting winter classic of pies and peas was served up to 21 customers and residents.
Many of the attendees are our regulars engaged in the centre through Wybourn Works and Golden Oldies (social group for older residents), and so the evening complete with bingo and a Christmas quiz was a fantastic occasion for friends to celebrate and connect with each other. It was also a warm welcome for our new Centre Coordinator for the Pat Midgley Community Hub, and the perfect way to get stuck in ahead of the new year.
