At Great Places, our mission is to create comfortable and safe living environments for all our residents. A recent project on the Campbell Road Estate in Swinton exemplifies our commitment to this mission, addressing a significant issue faced by many of our customers.

The story began when Caroline Daley, our Neighbourhood services Manager for the South, was working with the development team to better understand our customers’ experiences. During her rounds, Caroline discovered that numerous residents on the Campbell Road Estate were struggling with severe waterlogging in their gardens. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience; approximately 30 properties were affected due to substandard drainage work by the original developer.

Determined to resolve this issue, Caroline and the team at Great Places sought out a solution that would not only fix the problem but also restore our customers’ faith in their homes. We enlisted Draincare, a reputable contractor, to tackle the waterlogging problem. The transformation was both swift and remarkable; the gardens were rehabilitated in just one week.

One story that stands out is that of a single mother pursuing her degree at university. Juggling her studies, parenting, and home maintenance was already challenging, and the state of her garden added another layer of stress. The garden was a muddy mess, unsuitable for her young son to play in. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I felt loads of help and support from Caroline. It was hard work moving and fixing everything to be how I needed it, but it was so worth it.”

Caroline had assured her, “We care. We want your son to be able to use your garden to play football.” The relief and gratitude were clear. After the garden was fixed, the mother shared how much the new, green space meant to her family. “My life was upside down, and I really needed a new routine and somewhere to call home again,” she said, reflecting on how the improvements had provided her with a sense of stability and normalcy.

The positive impact extended to all the customers whose gardens were rehabilitated. What was once muddy and unusable is now thriving with natural grass, making the gardens not just usable but also beautiful. Every customer now enjoys a flood-free, lush green space, perfect for family activities and relaxation.

The link between our Repairs, Neighbourhoods, and Development teams has been fantastic, ensuring a seamless and effective resolution to the issue.

Hearing from our residents about how these changes have enhanced their quality of life has been incredibly rewarding. At Great Places, it’s not just about fixing problems; it’s about creating spaces where families can thrive and feel a true sense of home. This experience reaffirms our commitment to continually improving our communities and providing support where it’s needed most.
