Great Places’ Employment and Skills Support Team recently joined forces with Onward, SHAPES, Salford Media Club, Clarion Futures, and Salix Homes to support a free media and podcasting training programme for young people.

Delivered by The Reporters’ Academy at MediaCity, the programme provided practical experience in podcast production and media skills, helping participants build confidence, improve employability, and explore future career options.

Commenting on the experience they gained from the course, Awan, one of the young people who took part, said:

My experience at Salford Media Club was an amazing opportunity that gave me the chance to explore my creativity and build confidence in a supportive environment.

I had the opportunity to work with professional cameras and equipment, which was both exciting and educational. One of the highlights was getting to interview Olympic athletes, something I never imagined I’d do at my age.

Being surrounded by likeminded young people and passionate mentors made every session inspiring, and it really opened my eyes to future possibilities in the media industry.

Gill Rimmer, our Employability Coach Team Leader, added:

We’re delighted to have taken part in the project. It’s vital that young people have access to opportunities that help them discover their strengths and build skills for the future. This programme gave them a real insight into the media industry and helped boost their confidence in a professional setting. We’re proud to have supported it.
