Floating Support Workers from Great Places’ InPartnership Project in Blackburn recently played host to the commission lead manager from Blackburn with Darwen Council on a fact-finding tour.

Jan Hughes, Commission Lead Manager for Mental Health and Vulnerable People, joined Jake Gee and Nadeem Alam to meet customers and find out more about the floating support service as part of a supported accommodation and floating support service review.

As part of the visit, the trio visited customers Phillip, Nina and Craig as well as having lunch at the No 1 Café at the Darwen Community Hub – which helps people in the community – before meeting Gary and Darren.

Reflecting on the visit, Jan said: “It was a fabulous visit. It was great to see the job the floating support workers do and see up close the breadth and complexity of the issues the people they work with face.

“It was very moving to speak to the customers and hear their stories and how they have been able to work through their issues and ultimately get a handle on the situation.

“I was impressed by the range of issues and challenges that Jake and Nadeem deal with on a daily basis and how they deal with the different needs.

“It was very inciteful visit and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
