Great Places to partner with MCI Developments to transform former mill site in Oldham

Great Places is to partner with MCI Developments, a subsidiary of the national housebuilder, Keepmoat to deliver 53 affordable homes at the site of the former Bedford Cotton Mill in Oldham.

The project, which will be part-funded through Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Brownfield Housing Fund, will regenerate two acres of land near Holt Street, which was acquired for development this month, where MCI Developments and Great Places will invest £11 million into the build.

The site will be transformed into a mix of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom affordable homes and apartments for delivery through Great Places. Construction is set to begin in January and all 53 homes will include advanced energy-saving features such as PV panels, EV charging points, advanced insulation, high performance double glazing and modern, efficient boilers.

Commenting on the announcement Nick Gornall, our Director of Development, said:

Great Places is delighted to again be working in partnership with MCI Developments in Oldham for the delivery of much needed affordable homes.

The regeneration of the Holt Street site into 53 affordable homes is a step towards addressing the housing needs in Oldham. The development will revitalise a key area in the borough, enhancing the community for current and future residents. We look forward to working together and seeing the positive impact this project will have on the local area.

Craig Murphy, Regional Managing Director at MCI Developments, added :

MCI is delighted to be once again partnering with Great Places to deliver a fantastic scheme, conveniently located near various amenities such as supermarkets, public transport links, and schools and is just 1.5 miles away from Oldham city centre.

The partnership is a testament to what MCI does best – we are delivering affordable homes in an area of acute shortfall. To further support our commitment, we are actively seeking more sites to continue that mission.

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett, GMCA’s lead for Housing First, said:

It’s fantastic to see 53 affordable homes being built so close to Oldham town centre. Our Brownfield Housing Fund is unlocking many key sites across Greater Manchester and creating communities in areas that have long been in need of regeneration. I look forward to seeing the progress of this development and hope to see many more like them across the city-region.
