Aldersgate Court is looking more colourful than ever thanks to the dedication of customer Ronald Lewis and the support of fellow residents and Great Places colleagues.
On 7 July 2026, Great Places colleagues Mike Fitzpatrick, Facilities & Estates Manager, Christopher Wellington, Facilities & Estates Working Supervisor, and Caroline Daley, Neighbourhood Services Manager, visited Aldersgate Court to discuss grounds maintenance concerns that had been raised by customers. During the visit, they also had the opportunity to see first-hand the impressive transformation of the scheme’s communal gardens.
A few months earlier, Ronald Lewis approached Great Places seeking support through the Community Investment Fund to help improve the outdoor spaces at the scheme. Recognising the positive impact the project could have for residents, Community Investment Champion Andrew Kelly approved £100 worth of B&Q vouchers to help bring the plans to life.
A keen gardener, Ronald has led the effort to improve the communal gardens, working alongside fellow residents to create attractive and welcoming outdoor spaces. The gardens at the top of the scheme have been transformed with colourful planting, well-maintained flower beds and a variety of blooms that provide interest throughout the season. The area now offers a peaceful place where customers can relax, socialise and enjoy the sunshine.
During the visit, Ronald proudly showed colleagues around the gardens and shared some of his gardening expertise, including advice on tree pruning and selecting flowers that provide vibrant displays throughout the year. His passion and enthusiasm for gardening were evident, as was his commitment to creating an environment that everyone at Aldersgate Court can enjoy.
Mike Fitzpatrick and Christopher Wellington both commented on how impressive the scheme looks, praising the quality of the work carried out and the positive difference it has made to the appearance of the communal areas.
Ronald was delighted for Great Places to share his story and the success of the project across the wider business. His efforts demonstrate how customers can make a significant difference in their communities when supported with the right resources and encouragement.
The project is a fantastic example of customers and Great Places working together to create thriving communities and improve shared spaces for everyone’s benefit. It also shows the value of the Community Investment Fund and the big impact that even a modest investment can have when combined with collective commitment and community spirit.
