People across Lancashire should have by now received your food waste caddies and instructions on how to recycle.

Starting from April 2026, the new weekly food waste recycling collection service to enable local authorities to recycle more and reduce your carbon footprint.

Your kitchen caddy and outside food bin will have instructions on how to use it, what can be put into the food caddies and when to put it out for collection.

Once collected and recycled, food waste can be turned into something useful. Your food waste is taken to an anaerobic digestion or in-vessel composting facility where it is used to generate natural forms of energy, such as biogas, an excellent alternative to fossil fuels and a fertiliser which can be used in farming.
