Great Places’ Employment and Skills team has helped a young mum living in supported accommodation take positive steps towards improving her wellbeing, confidence and future employment prospects.
The customer, who had recently had a baby, was feeling low, isolated and without a regular routine. During a face-to-face meeting at her accommodation, the Employment and Skills team took time to listen, build trust and understand what support would make the biggest difference. Through the conversation, they learned that she had previously trained as a personal trainer and that attending the gym had played an important role in supporting both her physical and mental health.
Working together, they created a practical support plan that included childcare arrangements, regular gym attendance and opportunities to reconnect with the fitness industry. When the cost of membership became a barrier, the employment advisor contacted the local gym and successfully negotiated a membership plan that could be funded by Great Places.
Since joining the gym, the customer has been attending several times a week and has begun speaking with gym staff about future employment opportunities, including the possibility of delivering personal training sessions again. Colleagues at the supported accommodation have already noticed a positive change, with the customer establishing a healthier routine, spending less time isolated and taking important time to focus on her own wellbeing.
We love to see how a more person-centred approach can make a real difference in the lives of our customers, helping them rebuild their confidence and take positive steps towards their future goals.
