Fuel Poverty Awareness Day is a specific day dedicated to bringing attention to the problem of households being unable to afford adequate heating.

Fuel poverty affects a growing number of people, not just those in low-income households. It can pressure middle-income homes as well.

A household is in fuel poverty if it is unable to keep its home warm enough due to a combination of low income, high energy prices and poor energy efficiency.

The struggle to heat homes can lead to serious health problems, including respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, as well as poor mental health. It forces people to choose between heating, eating and other essential costs.

Call to Action: if you are struggling with your energy bills and facing financial hardship, the Money Matters team may be able to help. You can email us at moneymatters@greatplaces.org.uk or speak to your NSM and they can refer you into the service.
