Case Study Wybourn Works Supporting financial stability and pathways to employment

Our employability programme, Wybourn Works, has helped over fifty of our customers and residents into work – but alongside this, participants of the programme can also make use of the other avenues of support, whether that’s with their health and wellbeing, or their finances.

Matthew had been attending Wybourn Works for some time and was working one-on-one with our Employability Coach to ultimately get into steady employment. Because of his current job situation, however, Matthew was understandably relying on welfare benefits to cover his priority bills. This meant that at the end of the month there was not much left for him to live on.

Being an active participant of Wybourn Works, Matthew was aware of the financial support on hand through the programme. So, he made an appointment to discuss this with the team, hoping to gain some advice around welfare benefits and how to get the most out of what he was entitled to.

Our resident Money Matters specialist was able to support Matthew by working with him to submit an application for Council Tax Support and Discretionary Housing Benefit. Both were successful; Matthew received £1,589.38 in Council Tax Support for the year 2025-2026 and was also awarded £8.30 per week in Discretionary Housing Benefit, between August 2025 and April 2026.

This success put Matthew in a stronger position to control his finances whilst continuing to work towards his long-term goal of finding steady employment with our Employability Coach.
