The Wybourn works team spent the day in Birmingham with our funders from Learning and Work Institute, DWP, Youth Futures and IES.
The other 9 pilot sites were there as well. It was great to see the work we are all doing for our communities and the amazing outcomes we are achieving.
Paul did a fantastic job talking about our work with Wybourn.
The customer reviews were amazing! It’s great to see the changes which are being made for the residents of our local areas.
We had a resounding success with Wy-Fest in August with over 300 people attending on the day.
We celebrated participants who had completed courses and had found volunteering positions through the Wybourn Works, JobsPlus project.
Children had fun playing on the giant garden games and having a go at fencing as well as doing crafts and playing with remote controlled cars.
With free burgers and ice cream for people attending and plenty of partnership organisations there on the day for the community to find our more about what is available, a good day was had by all!
Spiderman and Black Panther paid a visit too!
We had a lovely Christmas fayre with people from the local area selling gifts such as mugs, hair products, natural oils and jewellery. We had a good turn out customers enjoyed a cuppa and cake as well as buying gifts and treating themselves. We all sang happy birthday to a local resident who came to the market too.
We look forward to putting on more events in the future for our Wybourn community.
A successful event was held at Pat Midgley Community hub where lots of cake, cookies and beverages were on offer for a donation which went towards raising funds for Macmillan Nurses.
Residents enjoyed a fun game of bingo and a good natter with each other.
It was our first money raising event and we look forward to doing more events in the future.
We held our first Health and Wellbeing event at Pat Midgley Community hub which was well attend by many Wybourn residents. We had amazing feedback and everyone who attended enjoyed the day.
We had organisations offering advice from Likewise, drug and alcohol service, Green Doctors were offering energy advice and are arranging to go to people’s homes to make energy efficient changes and additions to their homes such as heat reflectors behind radiators and energy light bulbs. Manor Castle Development Trust were also offering cost of living advice.
Our very own Community Champion, Reimana, was doing a cooking demonstration of Fine Dining on a budget, healthy snacks edition, where she made smashed avocados with onions, sundried tomatoes and sweet peppers on rice cakes, which went down a storm. We had Melanie doing mystery smoothies and Karine made sugar free health bars. Community Champion, Lydia was also on hand to help people make positive pouches where they designed their own positive wording on a zip case.
The health checks, facial aromatherapy sessions and reflexology were also very popular and much needed.
We are taking feedback received from the health check to offer more health related activities in the future to help improve health inequalities in the region. Watch this space!
