The Sustainable Assets Team continues to make steady progress in delivering our Improvement Works Programme for 2022, including work at our supported housing scheme at Mill View in Oldham.

Managed by Oldham Council, Mill Hill has eight individual flats and two bungalows providing supported housing for customers with learning difficulties, with a main building that houses a community lounge and kitchen and separate office space for staff and a staff kitchen.

Great Places, working with Emanuel Whitaker, is renewing the kitchens in the flats, bungalows, community lounge and staff area. The community kitchen and staff kitchen has been completed first and the feedback on the new updated facilities has been very positive.

Along with kitchen updates, the community lounge has been fully re-decorated so the tenants have somewhere bright, clean and new to sit whilst we are working in their properties. Emanuel Whitaker has also kindly donated £100 worth of board games for customers to help pass the time whilst the work is done on completing their new kitchens. Cakes were also provided to the staff as a thank you for their co-operation so far and going forward.

To limit the disruption during the project, we have looked to stagger the work over two phases of the kitchen renovations. Phase one is well under way with two kitchens complete and a further four in work. Once these are complete, there will be a break before we return to site and complete the remaining properties aiming to complete before Christmas. Commenting on the project to date, Kathy Howard, The Sustainable Assets Team’s Customer Liaison Officer, said:

This is great example of all parties coming together, listening and planning the works in to achieve the best results with minimum disruption for the tenants and staff.
