Since May, Esh Construction have been working on a Great Places development to bring 20 new affordable homes to Sheffield. As part of their work, they’ve been getting involved to deliver Social Value in the local area. Following their call off from the ICN framework, Esh Construction pledged to create £121,000 of Social Value within the local area.
In partnership with Great Places’, Esh have been working to deliver these commitments, so far delivering the following:
- Creating 2 apprentice opportunities working directly on-site. As part of their focus on increasing opportunities for women within the construction sector, 1 of these roles has been filled by a woman.
- Donated £7,500 to Great Places’ communal orchard development in our Wybourn neighbourhood. Going forward, once further work starts and where suitable donations of materials are to be made to support the improvement work along with volunteering hours to be provided.
- Provided a week of work experience to an individual interested in working within the construction sector.
- Attended and supported the delivery of Better Learners Better Workers (BLBW) fantastic event meeting with 140 students from 11 different schools. Esh Construction represented the Construction Industry, delivering 5 sessions each highlighting the various routes into the multitude of careers they have within the sector. One group presented their findings from the session at the end of the day to a 350-strong audience. Here are a few words from the students in the group; “At the start, I thought construction was just building and wasn’t so interested. When Esh spoke about the other roles in construction, especially media and law that was really interesting and fascinating to me”
As work on Fir View Gardens continues, many more outcomes will be achieved and we look forward to seeing their impact realised.
