The government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme for Winter 2022-23 is coming to an end on 31st March, to be continued for low-income families between Spring 2023 and Spring 2024.

As before, for most eligible households payments will be automatic and paid in instalments.  However, some Great Places customers might be eligible for the alternative route of the Energy Bills Support Scheme, a £400 payment that the government has recently launched to help 900,000 households with energy bills.

This alternative route is designed for those who do not have a direct relationship with their energy supplier. This may apply to you, for instance, if you are living in one of our schemes. You will need to apply to receive £400 as a one-off and non-repayable payment. There are no links (to avoid scams), and you can find the application process by typing into your web browser: “Apply for energy bill support if you do not get it automatically”.

If you live in one of our supported schemes and your tenancy is separate to others living in the scheme, you will each have to apply separately.

There is also a £200 payment available to those who use alternative fuel, such as biomass or heating oil.

Find a trusted friend to help you with your application if you feel this would be helpful, and remember this closes on 31st May 2023. The sooner you apply, the quicker this money will reach your account.

When you apply, you will need to provide proof of address and whether you pay council tax. Your local authority will then make the relevant checks. Once this has gone through, you will receive the payment in your bank account from your local authority.
