Great Places Housing Group’s partnership with Manor Park Primary school was formed to help build and sustain the local community’s financial resilience by raising its young people’s aspirations.  Great Places is facilitating a series of events, including trips to Manchester Airport and local business Amelia Knight.  The first visit will be to Great Places’ Head Office in Manchester, where children (aged between 9 and 11), will have the opportunity to speak to colleagues about their various job roles (including Communications, Estate Management, Construction and Human Resources), through engaging, interactive and fun activities.

As part of their commitment to social value, three of Great Places’ contractors are also taking part in the day (Sure Maintenance – Gas Servicing; VPS Group Cleaning Specialists and Poole Dick – Construction Consultants).

Commenting on the visit, Manor Park School’s Head Teacher, Simon Cotterill said:

Our school vision is to have limitless dreams and endless opportunities.  Our school values are respect, responsibility, pride, reflection and resilience.  It has been so wonderful for our children to experience how these values are the same for adults in the ‘real world’ as it is for them. Our visit is part of a wider project to support our children to challenge themselves to think big and to reach out for their dream.

We are helping the children to understand the skills and attributes they will need to be a success, not just in the world of work but as kind, generous and hard working adults.  We are so grateful to Great Places for supporting our project and for providing these amazing experiences.  The smiles and joy we’ve seen today on the faces of the children and adults is priceless.  Thank you.

Alison Dean, Deputy Chief Executive at Great Places Housing Group said:

This project demonstrates our commitment to our neighbourhoods and to creating strong sustainable communities. By engaging with local children, we believe that we can influence their aspirations and attitude to learning, which could help improve their longer-term employability outcomes and financial security.  These children will be our future customers and we are committed to help them achieve their goals.
