The Greater Manchester Housing First pilot has been named as the Best Initiative for Tackling Homelessness at the Northern Housing Awards.

The team picked up the award at a fantastic ceremony at Lancashire CCC‘s Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester.

The three-year pilot has helped more than 320 of the most vulnerable people in the region into their own homes.

The project is a cross-sectoral partnership of 12-organisations and a wider network of services across Greater Manchester, working as one with the GM Combined Authority to help people get their lives back on track.

Emily Cole, Programme Lead, said: “Winning this award is a testament to the hard work of so many people across Greater Manchester.

“Our colleagues and partners have faced the most exceptional circumstances during the various lockdowns but still managed to help people in need to not only support people into their own home but to allow them to flourish.

“The Greater Manchester pilot, and the ones in the West Midlands and Liverpool  has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the Housing First model works and should be central to the Government’s homelessness strategy going forward.”

This is not the pilot’s first win as they were also successful at the CIH Northern Housing Awards when they won the Housing Team of the Year.
