Gemma's volunteering story

“I made the decision to start volunteering as my part-time job in further education was becoming increasingly stressful. I’ve always loved working with people, which is why a job in education appealed to me, however, it’s becoming more and more about admin these days. This is the reason I decided to look for some volunteer opportunities.

“I chose Great Places as I live in an area far-flung from any of the offices and in the past as a community we had little contact with them. I thought volunteering would be a great way to get our views across and to understand the working of Great Places itself.

“At the moment I sit on the editorial and the customer service voice panel. Having been responsible for writing and producing newsletters in my previous jobs, and having a good proofreading eye, helping out on the editorial panel is the most enjoyable task.

“I really enjoy volunteering at Great Places as it’s allowed me to meet lots of new lovely people, a lot of whom I would never have met otherwise, which has been a really positive experience!”
