Over the last week, Great Places’ customers have been celebrating the momentous occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. With support from the Community Investment Team, a total of 48 projects and parties took place in our neighbourhoods and Independence & Wellbeing schemes.
Alongside donations from contractors John Southworth, a fund was set up to allow those across our communities to celebrate the jubilee with their neighbours, families, and friends. After two years of isolation and lockdowns, the events were a fantastic occasion to bring people together again.
Alongside these events, Fortem Solutions provided support to several Great Places’ schemes with their Clean for the Queen project. These events helped breathe new life into the communal spaces, clearing litter and improving the gardens in preparation for the Jubilee celebrations.
In one of our anchor neighbourhoods, Northmoor in Longsight, a street party was organised by local customers which included sports day events, food and dancing. Similarly, in Trafford and Stockport, customers celebrated with cakes, music and bouncy castles. One of the organisers of an event in Salford shared her thoughts on the event saying, ‘it was a magical day and everyone who attended said how fabulous it was to bring us all together to celebrate.’
‘Longsight Art Space’ also hosted a ‘Fertile Grounds’ exhibition with a procession through Northmoor Road and around Crowcroft Park. With DJs, barbecues and crafts, the event was a great hit wit
hin the community.
We’d like to thank John Southworth and Fortem for their Social Value contributions to Great Places communities and for helping to make the Jubilee a memorable and happy time for our customers.
