Northmoor retail units now available for rent

In the heart of Longsight on Northmoor Road, an iconic Grade II listed building has been in situ for over 100 years. The Great Places building houses 19 apartments, a thriving Northmoor Community Association (which is home to a community centre providing a wide range of services and activities for residents), and three recently refurbished retail units. Two of these Great Spaces are available for rental. Great Places are looking for proposals from businesses interested in bringing new offers and opportunities to the local Longsight community.

Just three miles from Manchester city centre located in one of our Anchor Neighbourhoods, this historic building is surrounded by vibrant people – a broad mix of residents made up of families, young professionals, students and older people, all part of a tight-knit community.

Built by the Cooperative Society in 1912, the building was originally designed for commercial use featuring a department store on the ground floor. In 2013, the beautiful building was celebrated with a party to mark its centenary year.

Longsight’s iconic Co-op Building has recently had a £400 thousand update as part of Great Places Housing Group’s annual investment works programme.

The refurbishment saw significant repairs to the external façade. This included the reinstatement of the four eagles that adorn the building’s iconic tower, as well as replacement sash windows for its first-floor flats. The five-month renovation project, delivered in partnership with Casey and IGL Surveying Ltd, saw substantial improvements made to the existing retail space at the front of the building. Shopfronts have had much-needed repairs and the interior of the three retail units.

Great Places wants to ensure that whichever businesses are successful in the proposal for rent, the offer to the community is of social value. Open to proposals from all sectors, we are looking to hear from private, public, community and voluntary organisations. Applications from new small businesses and entrepreneurs that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as established organisations looking to grow or diversify their offer are actively encouraged to submit a proposal. We would be pleased to hear from commercial or charitable organisations which offer opportunities for local residents.

The aim for Great Spaces: Northmoor, is to help the high street and neighbourhood centres to become more resilient and sustainable through new activity and diversification. We look to encourage and empower the local community to have a voice and shape the amenities and activities in their neighbourhoods.

So, where can you find out more, or want to share with someone who may be interested? Head over to the Great Spaces: Northmoor page. Ready to submit your application? Visit our application form. Good luck! The deadline for all proposals is 31 July 2021.
