GREAT Places Housing Group has successfully secured an extra £20.5m funding through its strategic partnership with Homes England to build an additional 534 homes in the North West over the next 4 years.
The funding is in addition to the near £30m grant Great Places obtained as part of its Wave 1 strategic partnership contract with Homes England last July. It means Great Places and its partners will be able to build 1,284 additional affordable homes including social rent, affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership over the next 4 years.
Matthew Harrison, Chief Executive of Great Places Housing Group, said:
“This is great news for people and communities who need affordable housing and our track record of working with a variety of partners means this will be positive not just for Great Places, but for the wider sector.
“We take pride in punching above our weight when it comes to tackling the housing crisis with an ambitious target of building 8,000 new homes over the next decade. Today’s announcement is a big leap towards delivery.”
Helen Spencer, Director of Development at Great Places Housing Group, added:
“Today’s news is testament to the work of Great Places’ Development Team over the past year to cement our reputation as one of the leading developers in the north of England.
“The past twelve months has been particularly impressive with the successful early delivery of our first year commitments as part of our Homes England strategic partnership. We have since established the principles to extend the partnership for the benefit of other organisations.
“Our lead role in a range of sector partnerships including Bloc and Innovation Chain North has been key to realising our ambitions. It puts Great Places in a unique position to deliver our commitment to build new houses, help meet housing targets and enable growth and new home delivery by other Housing Associations working in the same regions we operate in.”
Carl Moore, Head of Home Ownership and Supply, North West from Homes England, said:
“Homes England are delighted to allocate Great Places Strategic Partnership additional funding to enable them to deliver a further 534 new homes on top of their initial Strategic Partnership allocation. This will see Great Places build a total of 1,284 new homes through the Partnership by March 2024 providing much needed affordable housing to meet the needs of people from a wide range of backgrounds and communities.”
