Bright Sparks: a one day innovation event

Great Places is working in partnership with Yorkshire Housing, Together Housing Group and Onward Homes to deliver a one-day innovation event for colleagues to encourage collaborative working in the housing sector.

Bright Sparks is a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style competition that aims to unlock the best creative thinking in the sector. Candidates will work with team members from all organisations to develop concepts to tackle some of the problems faced by housing associations and our customers.

Brilliant entrepreneurs will be on hand to support candidates to develop their concept and pitch it to a judging panel. The best ideas may go on to be developed and implemented collaboratively.

Working in partnership with other housing associations in this way allows us to benefit from pooled expertise and draw on different perspectives and experiences. The aim of Bright Sparks is to increase efficiency and customer experience in the sector — and bringing multiple housing associations together increases our chances of doing this.

Johanna Russell, our Strategic Housing and Policy Manager, who is leading the event, said: “Bright Sparks is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues to learn new creative thinking skills, develop a network of peers outside of Great Places, and have fun! Working with the other housing providers allows the teams to skill share and develop the best innovations collaboratively.”

Andrew Brown, Onward Homes Regional Director for Greater Manchester, said: “We are really excited and proud to be part of this project. Partnerships and collaboration is how we get things done at Onward and this project will enable colleagues from different organisations to share ideas, learn new ways of working and explore ingenious solutions to problems faced by our existing and potential customers so that they can get the best out of life for themselves and their families.”

The event will take place on Thursday 15 November, from 8:45am–7:30pm, in Manchester.
