Great Places help create a brilliant buzz in Greater Manchester

Manchester is being taken over by a swarm of giant bees - and Great Places is proud to be a part of it!

Wild in Art and Manchester City Council are bringing all of Manchester’s communities together for Bee in the City, one of the most spectacular public art events the city has ever seen.

The Bee in the City trail features over 100 bees, painted by local artists and community groups, which will be popping up all over the city centre and surrounding suburbs from 23 July until 23 September.

Each bee celebrates the unique buzz of Manchester and we are proud to have sponsored two of the sculptures - one which will live in Levenshulme, and the other in our core neighbourhood, Northmoor.

Community Development Co-ordinator, Lisa Green, organised our involvement with the project, and attended last week's launch event with our Chief Executive, Matt Harrison.

Lisa said: "It was amazing to see all the bees together in one place before they fly off to their positions on the trail for the public to find. To see the bees we sponsored alongside sculptures decorated by Liam Gallagher, or signed by Rolling Stones, was quite surreal!"

Both our bees have been the talk of the local areas for quite some time before their arrivals. Bee Unique (Longsight) was brought to life by artist Qubek, who worked with the children of Stanley Grove School. Pupils picked the name and created designs showing what they would like the bee to represent.

The Bee With No Name (Levenshulme) was the idea of the young people who attend Levenshulme Youth Club. Funding of this bee has come from local businesses and community faith groups who have been an integral part of ensuring the Community Bees represent the areas they live in.

If you spot ours while out and about in Levenshulm or Northmoor, don't forget to take a snap and share it with us on Twitter @MyGreatPlace! The Longsight bee even has its own Twitter account @Bee_Unique (that's 3x) if people want to follow and have a chat.
