Helping Manchester organisations become carbon literate

It's been a busy week for the Great Places Environmental Team – completing eight Carbon Literacy sessions!

Great Places’ Carbon Literacy training began as an employee-only programme run over a ten-week period. During that time, 240 staff completed the training and the impact was remarkable – there was an increased awareness among colleagues and an eagerness to complete actions in order to reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint.

Following the success this training, our Environmental Team produced a condensed version to offer out to other businesses.  No other housing associations are currently providing this to third parties, so it was a first for us – and we’re very pleased to report that interest has been high!

Last week alone we delivered training to:
• Groundwork
• University of Salford
• Salford City Council
• City of Trees
• Oasis MediaCityUK
• BBC North West
• WEA Manchester
• Salford Foundation

Environmental Manager Sarah McClelland, who delivers the training, said: “This has been a busy but fantastic week spreading the word about the importance of being carbon literate. It's great to see so many influential local organisations reflecting on what actions they can take to have a positive impact on the environment and embracing the small changes we can make that make a big difference to our carbon footprint!"
