Milestone for Park Hill as colourful panels are installed

Key representatives from Great Places Housing Group, Urban Splash, Sheffield City Council, English Heritage and the Homes and Communities Agency gathered to see significant visual changes in the regeneration of Park Hill, Sheffield.

A series of coloured panels have been installed to the building’s first phase echoing the site’s original brickwork and moving the building forward to the 21st Century.

Matthew Harrison, deputy chief executive and director of development at Great Places Housing Group, which will offer 200 homes at the regenerated Park Hill for rent and 40 for shared ownership, said: “We were delighted to be able to show the progress we’ve made towards bringing this brilliant building back to life as an amazing place to live in and visit.”

The Grade II* listed structure is currently undergoing a multi million pound redevelopment programme, which is being carried out by award winning property developers Urban Splash in partnership with the wider project team.

The Park Hill Estate is a grade II* listed building, putting it in the top 7% of the most important buildings in the country.

It is as architecturally and historically significant as the Royal Academy of Art in London or the City Hall in Sheffield.

It is England’s largest listed building and one of only 10 listed post-war public housing schemes in England. It has iconic status as a landmark for Sheffield and shows Britain’s leading international role in housing design.
