Passionate people needed to shape new Great Places venture

AN award-winning housing association is looking for volunteers to steer the work of an exciting new project to help minority and migrant communities.

Great Places Housing Group has launched its Great Communities project and now needs enthusiastic committee members.

The initiative has been set up to make sure that the housing needs and aspirations of minority ethnic and new migrant communities are met and surpassed in all 30-plus council areas that Great Places works in.

Shoab Akhtar, Great Communities manager, said: “As a committee member, you would play a pivotal role in setting the vision and framework for research and community work.
“This activity will have real power to change lives and transform neighbourhoods so it’ll be really exciting for anyone who wants to make a difference.

“We need enthusiasm, commitment and expertise in equal measure – and would be especially delighted to hear from people of African, Caribbean or Eastern European heritage, with experience in research or academia.”

Shoab continues: “Almost a quarter of our residents are from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and between them, they speak more than 40 languages.

“We want you to work with and for them, to see that every voice is heard.”

Great Places is a fast-growing, dynamic group with 600 employees. The group develops hundreds of homes every year and provides supportive places to live for vulnerable people.

Great Communities will build upon the good work with black, minority and ethnic communities carried out by former subsidiary Ashiana Housing Association, before Great Places simplified its group structure in November.
