It’s National Apprenticeship Week and Great Places Housing Group is proud to be helping young people take their first step in to the working world, giving them to learn new skills so they can secure a job and transform their life.

Among those we have helped is Alex Benyon, who joined us on a Level 1 NVQ Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship back in May 2013.

Since then Alex has fully grasped the opportunity given to him. He has developed his knowledge and skills to become an excellent joiner, achieving his NVQ Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery with distinctions.

“The support I’ve received from my line manager and everyone at Great Places has been excellent. I’ve been given the opportunity to gain on-site training and work alongside experienced tradesmen. I’ve learnt a lot about delivering an effective repairs and maintenance service to our tenants.”

The feedback Alex has received from both his college tutor and his colleagues has been consistently excellent. His line manager, Colin Mannion, added: “Alex has learnt the requirements of delivering an excellent repairs service to our customers and he has all the attributes to achieve a long and successful career. I’m very proud of his achievements and contribution and I wish him well.”

All his hard work and dedication has paid off as Alex has now secured a permanent role as a Joiner in our RAM team. Asked about his time as an apprentice at Great Places, Alex added: “I’ve been provided with a fantastic opportunity to develop and build a career path and I’m very grateful to Great Places and my manager for having faith in me and supporting me. I’m really excited about my role as a Joiner with the company and I’m confident that I can make a good contribution in delivering a great service to customers.”
